What is the Ashland Leadership Academy Seminar?

The Ashland Leadership Academy Seminar (ALAS) is sponsored by Ashland University located in Ashland, Ohio.  The goal of ALAS each weekend is to provide participants with interactive presentations, featuring knowledgeable and experienced practitioners, regarding contemporary issues in American public education, as these impact the administrative practitioner. The formula for meeting this goal is a synthesis of pertinent legal analyses and updates, a review of significant, contemporary experiences from the field, and a sustained dialogue regarding effective and emerging leadership strategies.   At your left, you will see an archive section.  Click any month listed in the archive section to view blog archives and to enter a discussion.  We really want to hear from you, so join in the conversation.

2012 Seminar Series

Planning for the Eleventh Annual Ashland Leadership Academy has begun in earnest.  Several prominent national speakers have been contacted, and a contract has been issued to Dr. Yong Zhao, author of the book, “Catching Up or Leading the Way.”

As always,  one of the highlights is the work of John Britton and his legal team.  This will continue as each Saturday afternoon featuring timely topics from the legal team, with plenty of question and answer time.

In addition to the work on ALAS, the Telego Center in cooperation with Dr. Larry Coble has developed a series of fully online workshops on the topic of educational leadership.  There are five workshops which are one graduate credit and focus on educational leadership.  In addition, there is a two credit hour workshop focusing on the teacher as leader, tied to the book by Larry Coble and Dale Brubaker.  If you would like to know more about the workshop series, click on this link:  Dr. Larry Coble.

Finally, Ashland University Department of Educational Leadership continues to be a pioneer in leadership training.  Using the latest tools, the Department of Educational Leadership provides noteworthy training for pre-service and current school administrators.  One area of note is the work with simulations.  To learn more about the research into simulations, click on the link below.

SimWriter Research

The research project centers on factors which influence administrative decisions.  The project began in 2008 with the production of the first simulation, and the plan is to study the effects of using simulation based learning on administrative training.  If you would like to share the simulation with others, click on this link and you will be taken directly to the simulation:  “Let’s Not Rap.” If you would like to know more about creating simulations with SimWriter, you may want to visit NexLearn at their website.  Click on the link below to visit them.
